“I believe that in a great city, or even in a small city or a village, a great theatre is the outward and visible sign of an inward and probable culture.”
Laurence Olivier
Hi everyone! This post is a little different than my normal formatting, but that’s okay cause this is equally important. It’s a Things to Experience of sorts! If you’ve followed me for a while on Instagram, you’ll know that I am huge lover of the arts and have a giant soft spot for theatre. One of our favorite things to do is to catch a show put on by a local community theatre. Granted, we haven’t had the chance in a while, but we did get to experience our first large production last year when we saw the Broadway tour of Aladdin.
What most don’t know is that my lovely husband is a theatre actor himself. He got into the drama program in high school and the rest is history. While I’m not an actor by any means, we definitely jam out to musicals on road trips. We’re both incredibly lucky to have our road trip duet partners. After three years of nonstop work and travel, he set aside some time to get back on stage. That’s right fans, our dear Alex is back to his passion in Disney’s Newsies. Thanks to a full time work schedule, he didn’t take on a huge roll, but he does get to play a bad guy for the first time. I’m very proud.
I’ve had the opportunity to sit in on some rehearsals and have seen some rehearsal videos, y’all let me tell you…there is MAJOR talent in this cast. Broadway Arts Center out in small town Jefferson, GA formed a theater program for, as they put it, “kids, teens, and the young at heart” called a Labor of Love and this is their first big full length musical. I’ve seen some of these teens and adults act before in other productions and while I may be biased, they rock. There’s so much passion and energy flowing from each person that you can’t help but cheer them on.
So if you are looking for something to do on July 13th, there are two shows at 1pm and 7pm as noted on the featured photo (created by non other than myself might I add). Get out early and head try out some of the local restaurants or maybe a wine tasting at Chateau Elan before heading on over to the show. Tickets and more information can be found at the links below and don’t forget to follow Labor of Love on Facebook for future shows! No this isn’t an ad, I’m just super excited about this show and to see Alex act again (FINALLY). As usual, travel well and travel often!
