What This Year Brings

“May your adventures bring you closer together, even as they take you far away from home.” – Trenton Lee Stewart

With 2021 over, for better or worse 2022 is upon us. We’ve planned a few trips this year and we’ll see if they happen. It’s going to be an interesting one with my 30th birthday looming over me this next month.

I’m not entirely nervous about 30. Most of my friends at this point have hit that age and say it’s not as bad as we fear when we’re in our early 20s. I’m looking forward to it, especially having planned a trip to drink around the world at Epcot and a day lounging around Discovery Cove.

Let’s fast forward to May. I started the above post in January. Little did I know that we’d be burying Alex’s grandfather, my grandfather, another one of my uncles, and as of the news I received yesterday an aunt. Oh did I mention a car accident on our way home from Disney that totaled my paid off CR-V? Yeah, in all honesty (look away cause I’m about to drop some words) fuck 2022.

Granted, the entire thing hasn’t been bad. I really enjoy my job and even moved into a position there that suits me better. I got to experience Puerto Rico, our family’s homeland, for the first time in March. I’ve had some really good days. It’s just that the bad is outweighing the good this year. My mental health has absolutely suffered because of it all. The need to take care of everyone around me has left me exhausted.

Hopefully, the next several months will see a change as I focus on grounding myself as well as some adventures Alex and I have planned. Thank you all for sticking around this long as it’s been quite the year so far.
